Hey JDL - I was the first to jump all over Martin Habelt for what he did to Montabaur and the Ants last season. I still feel he could have done more to halt or at least slow the massacre.

However, I wasn't at the game, so I don't know what series of events led to 51-0. This is the way I see it: At the end of the 1st Quarter, it was 24-0. All I am hearing / reading is that the back-up everybody was in the game in the 2nd half. A double reverse, flea flicker, calling timeout and running a hail mary when up 44 would be damn wrong, but if they run 90% Dive and you can't stop it, what more do you want them to do, kneel on the ball? Franken called timeout last year Montabaur 1 to try and score again, and they fumbled. That was wrong, it almost backfired, imagine explaining that to the board how you lost trying to get greedy and score more when you could have knelt!

51-0 is pretty bad; it is over the DODS 39 point rule. Coaches should do whatever to keep the score down, but if it was the Phantoms Junior graduates scoring in the 4th Quarter, so be it. Best of luck now that you have the top 2 teams out of the way!

Unfortunately, as long as AFVD weighs the table by point differential, we will have lobsided scores. It appears to be bad sportsmanship, but it is simply the way the rules are here in Germany. Possible a better way would be to count wins and losses, then head to head play and only count point differential as a tie breaker on head to head play. An example, two teams end up 9-1 and their only loss is against eah other, then you count points in those two games only. Then maybe we would see sportsmanship the way we are used to it in the States. However, as long as they use "Soccer" rules in determining the table, we will see this sort of thing. I don't like it either and have made my team take a knee even when people are yelling for me to try to score again. But point differential is important here in the AFVD. As long as it plays such an important role, people will run up the score.

But football is football, and we are all fortunate to be able to play it here and I for one, have been around awhile in Germany and it only gets better every year.

Thanks Mike, I appreciate your philosophy and explanation from a Coach's perspective. In the Army, we teach that effective leaders take the hard wrong over the easy right, and it seems like this is the case in your situation.

If you are trying to grow the sport of American Football in Germany, no kid wants to continue to play when he is getting beat 80-0 every week. You use these opportunities to get the kids that never play on the field to get some game experience. It sounds like this was the case this weekend.

I can agree the whole soccer mentality needs to change. It might work for Soccer, but not for football. However, my experience with coaching is that coaches are a fraternity just like police and firefighters. There are millions of discussion boards where coaches help one another. They should be able to police themselves with this running up the score BS!

ILTG, too many other factors to account for that make that difficult to do (police your own ranks). First is the fact that many coaches here don't understand the rules of the "fraternity" of coaching and would rather kick you in the face than to lend a helping hand. Example: in the states, you would be blackballed for not sending your last game video to your next opponent but here you get looked at crazy if you ask that of another coach. And the second big factor is the pressure from management to move up to the next league if possible. Very hard to explain a situation like Wiesbaden had in '05 to your Vorstand when you had the chance to get a few TDs earlier in the season and didn't and now you stay in Regionalliga because of it. I personally don't agree with running up the score, but its a different paradigm that we arent used to in the US.

I say we goto head to head matchup as the first tiebreaker! I mean seriously, if you are 9-1 and I am 9-1 but I beat you both times we played, who is the "better" team??

Gentlemen, we HAVE in the head-to-head tiebreaker since ..... äh ..... a long time :)

The total score is a tiebreaker when two or more teams have the same win-loss-percentage AND the same score in games between each others.

Then we should delete the "TD" column on the table as it is not needed. The "total" point differential is not required, only the point differential between the two teams that are tied in their own games with each other. I will NEVER coach on a team that tries to score in the 4th QTR when I am up 3 TDs. I really do take it seriously when I am shaking hands after a game...that is what football is all about, winning with honor. Winning is not rubbing someone else's face in the dirt. It is also not talking trash. It is hitting someone hard and helping them up. Now if I can run the score up on you in the first two and a half or three quarters...I will ;)

It's tough to get a 9-1 record, when you're beaten twice !!

If I was a coach, which I'm not and which is why I do not have any experience like you, I SURE AS HELL would not wanna be in a frat with the likes of Bellicheat or the Bowdens or all the other rule benders and rule breakers, the player chokers and the booster bootlickers. I'm sure there are fine coaches out there, but imo they are outnumbered by the bastards.
