My personal opinion, I do think there was a Gentleman's agreement to play back-ups the 2nd half, I do have a pretty credible source. HOWEVER, I think Coach Spielbauer had reasons for doing what he did:
1. There were 1000 fans in the stands who came to see Kyle Israel and Michael Andrews play. I don't think ANYONE in Dresden thought that they would be played off their feet by a GFL2 absteiger, especially one from Niederbayern

. After the poor performance of the offense the first half against a team that gave up 35 to Prague the week prior, I think Coach Spielbauer caved in and played guys longer than he had anticipated.
2. First game with a new team, new vorstand, new fans, Gary had to make a statement and win this game. He knew Plattling would be using back-ups the 2nd half and went for it.
3. Maybe it is customary in Germany to run trick plays, use trick schemes, onside kick in pre-season games, but it is not in the US. Gary is a US Coach and should know better than this. The use of sky kicks, a form of onside kick, is cool regular season, but has no place in a pre-season game. the kick the first half was a normal kick, but again, pressure to win, got to make something happen, you go for it to get some momentum going, and it worked. Plattling should have been prepared to defend, the coaches should have known the situation a little better to expect this, but I think Coach Olive has his head stuck in the states sometimes and doesn't realize he is playing this game in Germany, a win at all costs type environment. When he learns this, he'll be OK.
Some positives to take out of the game from Plattling:
1. you won't face a much better RB this season than Michael Andrews, and you did a good job stopping him the first half.
2. You won't face a much better QB this season than Kyle Israel. They got nothing over the top, only dink and dunk passes the first half.
3. you moved the ball with a QB who had been in country for 2 days with a 10-play playbook. It will only get better.
4. everyone of your players got valuable playing time verses a solid GFL1 opponent. You will need this experience later in the season.
For those looking to jump off the Plattling bandwagon and write them off this season, thats probably a pretty good idea. they are a young team that will struggle this season, but they will win their share of games. Besides, I think they like the underdog role better!
