Look, Texican is giving his opinion and he is entiteled to do so. He didn't offend anybody, he didn't say anything that could be understood the wrong way. In fact, he has given a more through analysis of the situation, from his view, than most other people ever do in this forum. So from Marburg or the South there should be no hard feelings.
That said I don't necessarily agree with Texican. He has a point that there are some "older" guys on the roster but one has to look at which positions. Ullrich is an aging QB but his age, he's 33, is not a big concern for a QB, if any. Yes, his play declined last year but I think it has more to do with thesituation around the team last year and the fact that the team relied more heavily on the run. That's why the numbers are down. JO didn't feel comfortable with the scheem employed by his last coach in Marburg, which has caused some concern and errant play for him. He stil finished near the top of all GFL QBs last season. I am sure with a new coach and a motivation boost he can lift his game again.
Heidt is 35, spear is 30 and they are by far the oldest guys on an O-Line that was the top unit in 2009. Age is less of a concern for O-Linemen anyway and these guys are not done yet. As a matter of fact Heidt's play has earned him strong consideration from the National Team. Rumors have it that the O-Line may see a markee name addition for 2010. Yeah, who knows if Cooper is coming back. But if not, whoever fills his spot will have a damn good line to run behind. MM may not score as fast as with Cooper, but it will score often.
Duft, who you mentioned, is 27 and in his prime. Bambuch is 30 but he hasn't played many years as he started late.
The defense has no age concerns at all except for Christan "Scoop" Graw who will be 33. He can still ball. However, there is a lot of young talent there in Averhoff, Clark, Gordzielig, Ochs, Sheppard, Lau, Albrecht.... The Defense stunk last year. But that's where Roman comes in. New scheme, new players, new motivation.
Marburg gave the North a good run for their money last year with all the bad circumstances. That leads me to believe that they will compete in 2010. Will they win it all? Who knows, but they will for sure make a strong case for themselves.

@Cantina, thank you...guys it is an opinion from a fan so@ Eisen why pissed?
I mention age because it is not the bones getting old fellas, its the thing we call "LIFE", players get married, get promoted at work, have kids; which means responsibility to family. Many players drive along way to M-Ville, some make practice once a week. Last season players complained about meeting times and prep time. This came from a source within the club.
Lets see the real picture here.
1. How many new players, and I mean new guys have contributed this past season?
2. Who besides Coop, made TD´s? Hey not many!
3. Is the Club growing at its core? How many players at a game 30 something 40 something, how many contributed?
4. Old is also Stars and their is a large number of them in M-Ville(not age but talent, new guys can´t get on the grass at games). can they be replaced with confidence with #2 players? The best play, but when one goes down is their a suitable replacement?
5. God forbid if JO goes down!!!!
Again guys I want Marburg to win, I was disappointed in 2008. I also think 2007 European game vs Innsbruck is one of the best games I have ever seen in my life here in Europe.
I will not apologize for speaking the truth as I see it, maybe Roman will draw the needed depth to this club.

No Offense given, just my thoughts.
Best Luck in 2010 guys.

He promises, Beer at all games, Cheerleaders who are Hot and GFL 1-2-3 and players get to be on TV.
@Eisen....won´t give that info sorry and I am only going on what was told to me and the source is reliable.Like a journalist I have many contacts on many teams and they trust me as I would trust them, so sorry.
Hoppe, in 2008 if it was he that was playing against the Diamonds late in the season he was ok. Lets face it, Jo is one of the few really wonderful German QB´s in the past ten years. Its like comparing diamonds to pearls. I did not see much of the 2009 season, film mostly because I was just to busy... so I can not really give you a answer that would be justified. IN 2008 what I saw if it was him and still have film and will check it out was Ok. I really have not seen any other QB than Jo with you guys that I have said "Damn Good".
This season of 2010 we have three teams that have good to great Offensive capability's.
PBH, SHall and MM. All three have the same problems with Defense, Hall being the best of the three in that category.
Positive steps by only one team so far.
MM with Roman, he should help the Defense. But what of the Offense, who is going to run it? What system? and will Cooper be back?
You have the O-line, one of the best.
You have the receivers...and QB.
My only question is depth, it is a long season fellas and a few key injuries with out reliable #2´s could spell disaster.
If PHB gets a defense, big trouble, if Hall increases its D capability real big trouble. I only say PHB because if they have the offense as last year or make it a bit better wow!
I pick Hall this year, they surprised the holy heck out of me this season and my hats off to them. If MM can match up with them, it will be a tough call.
PBH I still think will improve greatly, SS/WL/MC´s back of pack types.
But hey it is what October, Nov 1 practice starts for you guys, who knows?
I want to go to the German Bowl and see players I know and admire for their skills. I am dog tired of the North being there.

We are in late October, there are 7 (SEVEN) months till season. JR has a reputation that will work like the sirens song but with no bad end. My, usually, good sources tell me that we will have a squad that will be improved to last season and could be one of the best, if not the best, that ever played in Marburg. A good mixture between talent and experience.
But the truth is: We will have to wait till the season to see what will happen.
