I think a few of us just keep feeding the trolls.
I believe the teams we played against this year will agree that the season has been good for almost all of them, regardless of win or loss. In the beginning of the season most of the games kept the spectators on the edge of their seats. That might be irritating for the teams, but its good for the sport overall to draw the interest of the public. An occasional shutout is fine, but no one wants to see
constant 10:0 scores in soccer, why would it be different for football?
I think the Landesliga 2013 is going to be just as "close" as it was this year. If nothing changes in the off-season, I do see Bad Mergentheim as a clear favorite, if Biberach moves up (I believe the only undefeated mens fooball team in 2012) they will hit just as hard, and have the same chances the other teams have.
So you want a constructive discussion about defense in general instead of statistics and numbers? You can't really discuss the effectiveness of an offense OR defense without them. We could discuss different aspects of them though. Can they change their formations effectively when something is not working? Can they learn from their mistakes?
If you want to compare the defenses in the league, just looking at the numbers does nothing really. Break down the numbers entirely. Do not just ask how many points the defense gave up, but consider the points the defense actually made themselves. Is the defense centered around a single key player, or is everyone in collectively on the tackles? Do they communicate on the field efficiently? What has more value, the young and motivated promising new rookie talents, or the seasoned veterans with GFL experience? I would argue that they are all equally important in a team.
Now that a neutral foundation has been suggested for comparisons, let's discuss the Miners defense across the season.
vs. Ostalb
The first game won 18:12 in Ostalb
The second game won 35:15 in Heilbronn
The defense was more or less consistant, giving up 2 touchdowns.
vs. Bad Mergentheim
The first game won 10:9 in Heilbronn
The second game won 10:0 in Bad Mergentheim
The defense learned from their mistakes in the first game and instead of allowing "just" one TD, were able to prevent the opponent from scoring at all.
vs. Kornwestheim
The first game won 37:9 in Kornwestheim
The second game won 32:0 in Heilbronn
The defense learned from their mistakes in the first game and instead of allowing "just" one TD, were able to prevent the opponent from scoring at all.
vs. Fellbach
The first game lost 48:49 in Heilbronn
The second game won 42:9 in Fellbach
The first game was awesome for spectators, and Fellbach played a great game.

The HN defense scored 6 points in this game as well.
The second game the defense was tailor fitted and only gave up a TD and a field goal. The HN defense scored 2 points in this game as well.
vs. Tübingen
The first game won 27:6 in Tübingen
The second game will be played this weekend.
It *should* be obvious that the defense is more than capable of adapting to meet the needs on game day. They have, on average, been consistently better in their second game.
I hope that this is neutral and constructive enough to support the opinion that we do, in fact, have the better defense this year.
Never judge a person until you have walked a mile in their shoes. Then you are a mile away AND you have their shoes.
