How to improve the GFL

I am a big football fan and had a chance to play at various levels. Each league has their own spin on rules, regulations, etc.

The GFL is a combination of NCAA and make shit up as you go it seems like. This is my proposal for a more exciting league without knowing the ins and outs of how it can get done.

To make the league more intriguing I think:

1.) Allow 3 "A"'s to play on each side of the ball

a. 2 skill positions on both O and D and 1 lineman (OL, DL) on each sde of the ball.
b.) This will help those teams who often only have 2 decent lineman
c.) this will help bring in an experienced player on the line to help those teams without O-line/D-line Coaches and improve the talent on the line.

2.) Allow the ball carrier to get up off the ground if untouched as in the NFL.

3.) Drop the uniform restrictions, i.e. grey gloves, only clear visors, only molded cleats (wait, that isn't even an NCAA restiction....fussball players wear detachable cleats so what gives???) All teams have to wear knee high socks (NCAA wears low socks NFL is knee high)

4.) Make a field goal over 40 yds worth 4 pts as in NFLE. Just a little twist to be adopted as a GFL thing. Would make it interesting!!!

5.) More involvment from up top in dealing with recognizing players efforts, not just top scorer.

a.) MVP
b.) Offensive Player of the Year
c.) Defensive Player of the Year
d.) Special Teams Player of the Year
e.) Come back Player of the Year
f.) Rookie of the Year

These awards should not exclude Americans for they put in just as much time and effort (except rookie award)

6.) How about an Allstar game????? North vs South. Lets really see who is better....not just because one team has a bigger budget than the other and just destroys those teams without. Lets see if the North is really better than the south. Americans should be allowed to play in this game as well. Imagine the matchups that can be seen. The best of the best squaring off. When should it be played? One week after the GB? One week before the GB?

there are some great ideas there. The 3 A idea and the uniform policies are the two best in my opinion. They really need to establish some sort of clinic for all the refs. I have heard more than once a side judge tell me he saw the penalty but it wasn't his call. The refs need a better understanding of the game and stop trying to take the aggresive nature of the sport out of the game. And one more thing. The use of a ball with white stripes ie a NCAA ball, at the lower leagues. This will help the younger players with tracking the ball and the smaller ball will help young QBs learn to control the ball. The use of a NFL size ball at these lower levels is hurting the game. In my opinon

Wie hoch wird der Gewinn bei einem weißen Streifen sein? Wie hoch bei zwei?

Wird bei bunten Handschuhen der Football den Gewinn einstreichen odder der Händler?

Gibt es einen Mindeststandard für die US-Importe? Also nicht die in Deutschland gestrandeten WannaBes, die Iknowitalls, die zu Hause nicht klar gekommen sind und darum hier den Neuanfang gewagt haben.

Sich für hochgezogene Socken einzusetzen ist sicher löblich und zu unterstützen. Aber belegt das auch, dass die Imports mit ihren unglaublichen Ausbildungsfähigkeiten das Niveau bleibend anheben?

Ich will nicht sagen, dass alle Deutschen besser sind. Aber sind die Amis gut genug?

Ich denke mal jeder, der seinen Beitrag zahlt und hier für seinen Lebensunterhalt sorgt kann ohne Probleme in einen Verein eintreten und versuchen dort zu spielen.

c) Macht es nicht mehr Sinn, als Coach an den WR-Techniken zu arbeiten, als ihnen einen Flutlichtball zu spendieren?
d) Wer will MVPs oder ähnliches wählen, wenn es nicht mal eine flächendeckende Übertragung der Spiele zum Anschauen gibt?
e) 4Pkt Field Goal nur deshalb, damit man was eigenes hat?
f) Benutzen Jugendteams meist nicht freiwillig einen "großen" Lederball?


Um mit Skao einer Meinung zu sein: Wo genau bringt uns irgendwas davon weiter?

I agree totally. This league needs to be revamped and a new president that really knows football and not just about money, money, money. This league has the potential to really be the best in all of europe and attract some very top notch players but until things are right up top then the same thing is going to keep happening year in and year out.

Div.1, 2, 3, J.C....it doesn't matter. The compentence level to teach others will be off of the reflection of the competence of the HC. The HC will determine how much football knowledge the player has from whatever he wants to ask in the interview....ahhhh....an interview. A lost technique in the signing of an import. Too many HC or presidents of clubs import players without getting to know them. All they see is tape, a couple of converstaions on the phone maybe, and thats it. Are you hiring a mercenary? Are you hiring a party boy? Are you hiring a thug? Know who you are investing in and dig deep in the research.

This was hard to translate into English. What I mean by this is that the GFL has to choose which rules they wish to follow...the NCAA's or some hybrid of some GFL protocals, NFL, and NCAA. It should be decided across the entire league and stay that way when applicable. If the games aren't telivised, who cares!!

So what exactly are you saying? There should be NO imports or just not a third? Bottom line, Americans on the whole know more about the game than the rest of the world. Just like the rest of the world knows more about fussball than America. We have awesome athletes in America, but not the skill set to excell in fussball. If we could pair the 2, America's National team would favor better in World Cups. On the whole, the American QB in most cases is better than a German for the simple fact that they have been playing since they were 7yrs old! We have learned to read defenses, watch film, train correctly, etc. This goes for other positions. True, not all Americans are great, some really suck! The trick is to find that American who is an all around person, good athlete, and is willing to leave their family, job, etc. to play football hee for the little money that is given. Not so easy. Again....interview your players Presidents, coaches!

What does this mean? A standard for an import? Americans stranded in Germany. Americans being know it alls? I am trying to understand your point or question rather? It sounds as if you have a little discontent with Americans playing here. For all of the Americans you have incountered that rubbed you the wrong way, there are many more who are great people and give it their all for their team!!!! There are many imports who just keep coming back and get signed year after year...some who have been on the same team for years.....not everyone makes or has made Kelvin Love money. You have palyers who consider Germany a second home and come back because of the relationships they built here and for the love of the game. These are the same players who come to EVERY practice, who have to find a job while here because the mannschaft doesn't give them enough to support themeselves and others may have to.

Jemand der 'wirklich Football kennt' gehört an die Spitze der Trainerakademie.
An die Spitze eines erfolgsorientierten Verbandes gehört jemand mit Wirtschaftshintergrund.
Ist aber ein Verband. Und da wo Verbände sind wird gewählt und da liegt dann das Dilemma.

Fragen wir doch zuerst einmal: warum gibt es das Alles noch nicht? (also die 'Verbesserungsvorschläge', die zu Beginn angebracht wurden)

Okay the trainers academy is a really good idea for german coaches. But let me just say this. when an american coach takes over a programm alot of german players can not handle the way training is done. This league need to find th top notch german coaches and send them to the states and really learn this game. Look at the Berlin Adlers this year. There coaching staff has alot of coaches that are american, has coached in america, or has been on a American coaiching staff ie. NFLE. The GFL has alot of work to do. Just imagine if an American with great football knowledge and great Business Management skills took over the league alot of great things would probably start happening. But of course a palace is not built over night.

no, but I just cant stand a plot to make more money off of a team for something as trivial as must having high socks. 50 Euros per player who doesnt have them on in the summer heat? Braunschweig is allowed to do what they want! It isn't fair.

Das sind alles Äußerlichkeiten, die keine Veränderung in der Sache an sich herbei führen. Das wäre wie der angehende Abiturient, der sagt ich mach jetzt Abi und sich nur die Haare schneidet. Die Veränderung muss im Kopf und nicht außerhalb passieren.

Wir haben Regeln und die müssen überhaupt erst einmal eingehalten werden Was nützen hochgezogene Socken und bunte Handschuhe in einem Wald und Wiesen Stadion. Letztens hier noch im Forum einen netten TV Bericht gesehen. Dachte, das wäre Verbands oder Oberliga. Bis es dann auf einmal hieß, das wäre Regionalliga. Also eine Stufe unter den Lizenzligen!

Erst mal muss es eine Bühne geben und dann kann man über die Kostüme nachdenken.

Und nein, ich habe überhaupt kein Problem mit dem Einsatz qualifizierter Amerikaner/Nordasiaten/Mexikaner/Kameruner. Wenn allerdings ein Spieler 'geholt' wird, dann sollte der ein gewisse Qualität haben. Womit wir dann beim nächsten Problem sind: diese Qualität kostet Geld. Das an sich ist nicht unbedingt das Problem. Vielmehr natürlich dessen 'Erwirtschaften'. Da ist die A-Regelung verständlicher und sinnvoller Selbstschutz für wirtschaftlich unbedarfte Vereinslenker.

Je weiter runter es in der Ligastruktur geht, desto weniger finanzielle Mittel sind vorhanden. Da schlägt dann die die Stunde der Iknowitalss und der WanneBees. Unabhängig von Nationalität ziehn diese Gurkenkalles und Tingeltangelbobs über die Lande und verkaufen die Footballwelt in Tüten.
